Is there a way to pop open the hood on my ‘71 with a broken release? Went to open the hood today and the handle with cable attached pulled straight out. HELP requested
There are different ways to do it but when it happened to me I just removed the driver side egg crate grill and reach my hand up there and pop the release.

This happened to me. There are two plugs in the cowl area, one on each side, directly in line with the hood latch. You can see the tan coloured plug in the video above. Pop out the one on the driver's side. Then use a coat hanger, screwdriver or similar and push it through the hole to engage and pop the latch. Maybe I got lucky but I used a flexible magnet pickup tool and had this done in 5 seconds once the plug was removed.

Believe it or not my car (71) does not have this hole & plug on the drivers side. it has it on the passengers side only.
Yup......I did mine with some scrap brake line, a couple straps, & a piece of cable for under ten bucks! The loop is at the front edge of the hood, just reach up in the hole on the bottom of the front valence.... behind the headlight.
