I have a 1982 Collector's Edition. The attached picture is the compartment where the jack is stored. Oil from the engine seems to be coming in through the in the bottom of the compartment. Is there supposed to be a grommet in this hole? I am also worried abut water intrusion if I get stuck in the rain.
Measure the diameter of the hole and find a "drain plug/nipple" for it. You might end up using one designed for the end of the drain hose on an AC evaporator, or for the drain hose(s) from sunroof drains. Ideally, You want a rubber piece that water can flow through to get out, but nothing comes back in.
Most FLAPS also have assortments of "firewall plugs" or similar that might have one that fits. That would be a solid plug which is fine if no water ever gets in there.
I don't think the oil came into the car through that hole. More likely it was spilled in the compartment perhaps by someone storing a a bottle of oil in there.

Where could it be coming from?
Is the differential spraying gear oil onto the outside from the right stub axle seal?
