I have a loud thump or clunk sound coming from the rear somewhere, not all the time just periodically.
Does someone have an answer or idea of what it could be?
It only seems to do it when I’m pulling out.
Thank you,
John

You'll get more feedback with greater details:
What model year and transmission (auto vs. 4 speed)?
What condition are the tires in? Unusual tread wear patterns?
Detail under what conditions the thump makes itself known:
If automatic, when shifting into gear from park?
Acceleration, coasting, braking?
Turning left, right, both?
Any known service to the driveline components?

Agree with other posters that the front differential mount snubber is a likely culprit.
Have you checked the fluid level in the differential?
If your car is a 73-79 vintage, check the side play in the differential axles.
Find a parking lot and do some slow, tight figure 8s, both left and right. If no noise during this exercise, then you can likely exclude the posi unit.
