You guys helped me a day or two ago identifying a solenoid now I have an electrical connector stumping me. Yes I have a wiring diagram but the purpose of the connector is still not clear. I have about 75% of the harness now identified but this one I need help. Take a look at the picture and see if you can help me tell what this is for. I have an idea but want to hear from some others. 3 wires into 6 conn
ections; yellow, brown and purple. Can you help??
Those are the fiber optic lines for the front lamps. They are not wires...no electricity involved. The plastic lines transfer light from an assigned bulb to the display at the front of the transmission console. From the display, you can tell which bulbs are lit (and which are not).
That is what I was guessing and thanks for the verification. This car is a bit more of a challenge than originally thought and since the past owner died I can't get any reference points as to what he was doing. This helps!
If you intend to do significant work on this car, purchase the following manuals and make your life a WHOLE lot easier:
Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual (for that model year) [Note: for all Chevy models, not just Corvette]
Assembly Instruction Manual (for that model year) [commonly referred to as the AIM] This manual was used on the assembly line at the Corvette factory. It is ordered in sequence of the build process for the car. It only details that work done at the final assembly plant...not sub-assemblies that were procured from other GM Divisions or outside sources.
If you plan on DIY rebuild of engine, transmission, differential, or any of the engine accessory components, you also need a copy of: Chevrolet Chassis Overhaul Manual (for that model year or similar model year) This manual is no longer in print by anyone; but copies are found on eBay or other auction sites occasionally....and it is worth waiting for!
Learn as much as you can about the car and how it is built. You will find lots of use for that knowledge on your 'journey'.
