Default 1968 Rocker Panel Moldings

Experts -.My '68 came equipped with a lot of missing parts and several boxes of extra parts and pieces. Some belonging to this car, some not. Some belonging to a '68, most not. Therein lies the fun! Today I went to install the rocker panel moldings and I believe what I have are actually for a '78-79. These are aluminum with chrome plating along the upper edge and painted a flat black with six 1/4" holes for mounting. I believe that '68 rocker panel moldings are two-part and are fiberglass. Before I post these for sale and haul off and buy what I believe to be the correct ones can I get a verification on the above. Thanks--Lee

Hey Wescott, I won't be back to my house until mid-week so I can check, but don't get rid of those! I have a late '68 (Aug) and, if I remember correctly, mine are aluminum. Mine are off right now, so it will be easy to check when I get home. I can take pics of the installation hardware too if that will help. Best, Paul

Edit: I took mine off last January and for me, that's a looooong time ago. But I swear my late '68 are one piece. I'll check when I get home later in the week. If I'm wrong, I'll quit swearing.

You are correct 68 is not 1 piece and most of it is fiberglass

2 piece
large major piece is black. Fiberglass
small upper trim is aluminum’ or stainless with part painted black.

I have a pair of the original fiberglass lower pieces, maybe one tab is broken off on each of the pair but you can use fiberglass to repair. Unfortunately shipping from Canada is kind of expensive.
When the borders are opened then shipping will be cheaper. However I only want 175.00 for the pair. You would need to find the upper aluminum trim but I may or may not have the one side but is a repop
You can send me an email to grantwong@telus.net
Thanks grant

My '68 has the same rocker panels as above, one piece aluminum panels and they seem to fit fine. I have them off right now because I just put on some side pipes. I didnt know they were supposed to be fiberglass. Seems to me that the aluminum would hold up better.

I was hoping if I waited long enough I would get the answer I was looking for!! I am eventually wanting to put side pipes on mine as well, so maybe this will work. Is it just the six screws holding yours on, or are there additional fasteners?

Well..............I'm going to have to quit swearing. Got back last night and just went out and checked them. Sure enough, as others have said - fiberglass with an aluminum molding. I could have sworn.......wait, I just gave that up!

Ha! Well thanks for double checking. I think that I am going to see if I cant make these work. Since I am eventually going to side pipes, this may be better anyway. Thanks again--Lee
