I'm planning on putting a set of polished Boyd's Junkyard Dogs on my 1972.
I bought (1) 20x9 and (1) 18x8 to test fit and see how they look. I can still easily return these if I decide on a different size (maybe 18 / 17).
My plan was to go with 20's in the rear and 18's up front. The rear wheels have a 5" back spacing and require a 5/16" spacer to clear the brake calibe. But they fit.
My question is what size tires should I run if I decide to keep these?
I know there are mixed feelings about running 20" wheels, I've read all of the threads. I merely want to know the tire size any of you have used if running wheels this size.
Again, I'm not looking for opinions.
This is really close to a original size C3 tire on a 15x8 wheel,,, Everyones clearances will differ a little, but this 20" tire size is a good starting point.
Use these easy calculators to compair any available tire sizes,,,,,, ,,,,,,,
i dont have a car with a setup like this.
but try to get the hub raised to the correct stance so you can measure and visualie it better.
post pics looking down the side what kinda offset is from teh fender.
Youre gonna want to get a taller sidewall for the rears(so you can get standard sidewalls for the fronts). With different wheel/tire will look more proportionate to each other.
If you put stretch low-pros in the rear, and want the same look for the front, you are gonna have a huge fender gap in the front.
I would go to a shop and test 295/40 on the rear and go from there.

Nope. But that is a 27" diameter tire that will fit a 9" wide rim. Go to TireRack or other large tire vendor and see whats available in a 27" diameter tire IF you are actually looking for a 27" tire.
So I sent the 20's back. With the 5/16" spacers, I only was able to grab a few threads for the lugs. Too risky.
Back to the drawing board; 18's all the way around, or 18x8 rear and 17x8 fronts. Hmmm
