I am trying to diagnose an electrical issue. I suspect the alternator bearings, but that is just a suspicion at this point.
Typically just after startup, I will get a noise from the engine compartment that sounds like a belt slipping. At the same time RPMs drop slightly, and the voltmeter pegs on the high side. Interior lights will dim, and the radio loses power.
You could remove the alternator belt and see if the symptoms go away. A mechanic's stethoscope, a long screwdriver, or a piece of rubber hose can make debugging specific sound locations easier.
If it turns out to be that, @interpon posted the process he went through to rebuild his alternator, including replacing the bearings. Or this could be a great opportunity to upgrade to a higher amp output alternator.
Charge your battery all the way up and take your alternator belt off temporarily. If it is the alternator, the noise will go away. While the belt is off, spin it with your hand - you will be able to feel if the bearings are toast.
