Looking to install OEM style tires on 69 that originally came with w/s tires. Don't plan on putting many miles on per yr ( under 1k) is Coker the best option for F70/15's or Kelsey/ Goodyear? I've heard of some quality issues with Coker and was looking to hear from members' experiences. Also Bias ply vs radial ? Like the OEM look of bias but is the ride that bad? Thanks.
Ride and handling are pretty bad with bias ply tires...compared to decent radial tires. If you have rally wheels, BFG T/A's Radials or Cooper Cobra raised white letter tires are the 'go-to' options in 15" wheel diameter. If you have P02 wheel covers, thin-line whitewall tires or red/blue/gold-line tires are good options. For the 'thin-line' tires, Coker [et al] are good sources of original 'looking' thin-lines. If you want less expensive thin whitewall tires, Hankook Optimo's thin whitewall tire in 15" size will work.
If you have early C3 (prior to 1977), 235 width radials are as wide as can ALWAYS fit without rubbing in front wheel wells. 235R60-15's are standard fare for "normal duty" C3's.
I prefer the Goodyear reproduction's over the Firestone Wide Oval reproduction's. If you are getting your car judged in the future the Goodyear's have a 9 channel tread and will typically get you more points. If you are looking for the original look but want radials, I would go with the FR70-15 wide oval radials. You can get them at Jegs: https://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...0002&langId=-1
I did the skinny white walls with stock rally rims and caps. 225/75/15 in the front and 235/75/15 in the rear. Neither rub, rear tires are 9.5 wide which is nearly as wide as 255/60s, but they fill up the well better I think and help with highway RPMs a little. I probably won't opt for whitewalls next time simply because they are getting harder to find.
