Can't find my build sheet (1981) and appreciate they're not available for St Louis cars, but would still like the RPO codes etc which I believe are on the shipping invoice.
It;'s just that the website is not showing as secure in my browser and I'm always reluctant to start giving my credit card details away under such circumstances.
This is part of the GM Heritage Center and is a reliable, secure resource for documentation. I haven't ordered from them because there are no records that my cars didn't come with plus my cars are in the era of the lost records.

Are they secure/legit?
Any recent experiences?

Yes...ordered and received it for my 78 Pace Car and it aligns nicely with build sheet data.

The common place, next to the gas tank, is between the speedometer and tachometer. But other places where buildsheets have been found, as noted include under carpet, in the jack box (passenger storage compartment) and, believe it or not in the strut bracket. But this find is typically is low-mileage vettes. All of which are the St Louis cars.
...a window sticker which is what I really want...
FWIW: a window sticker and a dealer invoice are not the same, although they have basically the same information on each since both were generated from the original build sheet.
Sample window sticker:
Dealer Invoice from Allied-Vaughn through the Heritage Center:
The basic information is the same on each, but the formats are different. You could use the invoice information to have a duplicate window sticker printed.

My primary goal is to confirm 100% what the original optional specification was, which from the examples you've kindly posted is either, with the invoice giving a little more history.
My friend lent me is endoscope camera which I fed behind the rubber fuel neck skirt and was able to have a good look round the top of the tank, but alas was not able to locate the build sheet.

Will look under the rear carpet next time out.
Proctologist?
Before pulling the rear carpet, have you contorted yourself and looked up behind the driver dash? That's where I found one for my '72.

No, just a cheap and tiny camera surrounded by tiny lights on the end of a semi-rigid cable with USB plug on the end - worked a treat!
Same as this....
I've had the centre cluster completely out as well as the glove box (not looking for the build sheet) and didn't come across it, likewise I had the speedo/tach housing pulled forward to replace the turn signal bulbs. Not saying it isn't in there somewhere, but certainly didn't present itself easily if it is in there somewhere.
Maybe I could use the camera up in there, or, under the carpet to save removing it - I could just shove it under the front lip behind the rear hatch frame?
If i can't find it, I'll sink 50 rips into a replacement dealer invoice, which will be a nice addition to the history either way.
Hi Guys,
I actually pulled down the gas rubber gasket & stuck my iPhone down & Wa La!!!!! There it is!!! It looks like it in one piece, not even going to attempt.
Here is a relevant thread which I think applies -- its from 2012 -- but seems to suggest that you may have some luck with finding out information on your St. Louis built car
