Default Craigslist find - 72 Project

No affiliation. Just passing this along. If you're looking for a project, here's a dry climate 1972 . . .

I saw that Car. Advertised in AZ.

One man's opinion.....I would run away at the speed of light.

NO engine.....NO INTERIOR worth speaking of. No bumpers no NOTHING (the correct hood will cost $750!)

My rules are; there are five things in a C-3;
Body
Engine
Chassis
Electrical
Interior

Buy the car if ONE THING is wrong.....not ALL of them.

You're up-side-down before you shake the guys hand! Even with the inflated prices being 'ASKED' for Chrome bumper cars...Say $30 k is a decent Chromie... This car will suck up TWICE that!

Unless you just want a car that will take 10 years to put right. To me this is a $2000 PARTS CAR.

Good luck in your search.

I'd agree if your goal was a "correct" car.
But if you are building a modded car, or just want to explore some ideas for a bumper car, might not be a bad starting point.
Correct hood might be $750, but it does have $1400 worth of fender flares.

I hear you Unk. I've bought a few projects over the years and removed fender flares to bring the body back to stock, or any number of other fixes, but for me the deal breaker is once the headlights have been removed and glassed over the car is finished.
Cheers, Greg

I must admit, the fact that the seller even mentions the condition of the birdcage amazes me.

Fastimes...I'm not particularly bagging on this vette...but I've been doing the C-3 thing for a long time. (45 years)

Flares 'scare' me....most of them are 'bondoed' on....they crack and can take a $15,000 paint job down faster than any other mal-fitting part.

I've been to Henderson...have clients there. (Casinos) Yup! It's dry like here...no ##$% idea that the car spent it's entire life there...two years in OHIO 30 years ago can seal the deal with the frame.

While in the best of worlds rust is not a real issue here in the SW....every rubber and plastic part has turned to DUST.

There is a Junkyard here in Mesa AZ (Max's Vette stuff) he has a dozen of the same in his backyard. The fiberglass is SO DRYED OUT it looks like 'HAIR' made a comeback!

That 72 makes me cringe!

All part of the education.

Wears me out just looking at it. Thinking of all the hours and late nights. But honestly could you find an early C3 project any cheaper.?

Dear G-D... To me the smart play is finding the most discheveled COMPLETE chromie I could find. there was a '73 on craigs for like $6500...ugly car with the paint sloughing off like snake-skin...but it was ALL THERE and running.

They are out there!

Remember the show Wheeler dealers?...Loved ED, but they 'totted-up' the cost at the end of the show...they left out 80% of the cost and 90% of the 'labor'...probably because some non-on-air personality did the leg work. In the end, ED is the only professional mechanic that works for $1.25 an hour!

Time spent on XYZ car =26 hours (chortle!) yeah RIGHT!
Time spent finding the parts= 150 hours.
Time spent reconditioning existing parts =250 hours
You get my point!

Cheers and have a merry!

Lost Cause - parts car

Glassed over head lights and 3rd Gen Camaro wheels - total pile of dog puke.

No sweat Unk! I totally get it! I just saw it and figured I pass it along. I myself would not look twice at that car. It scares me, but someone might like to haggle with the guy just for kicks. Sometimes sales pitches on cars like this are entertaining. Like "You're not gonna find these in the corner and this is a rust free Arizona surface rust only"

Assuming it's rust free I can't see a cheaper way to build a chrome bumper track car. Throw in a cage, bucket seat and an ls and bumpers...

Yikes! Not even as a parts car.... can't see any good parts. It pains me to see a C3 in such bad shape.

Sadly, some first time owner/buyer will fall in love with it and haul it off with big dreams and a small budget. We all know what happens next.
