Hey guys,
My Hurst shifter was never quite smiith while shifting my 69. The previous owner had the trans rebuilt and installed the shifter Recently examining the trans up close I noticed the the linkage plate that attach to the 1-2 and 3-4 forks had a good amount of slop in them so after ordering new linkage plates the slop is still there..time for new forks?. Is this a common issue with these transmissions? My next question is who should I purchase new forks from as I have seen new prices range from $18 to $27 per fork and they are supposed to be new units.
I buy all my transmission parts from Paul, at http://www.5speeds.com really great guy. he ships his parts out next day. He also has a channel on you tube called Gear Box Video.
Another place you could try is thegearbox.org. My friend just replaced the shift forks in his Muncie this past summer. He went with the more expensive made forks and stronger spring.

very cool..maybe a few before after pics and what he did to fix?
I went through him as well..reallly helped me a lot better n my m21 super t-10..and great videos, and parts..
I purchased my car a year ago and the aftermarket shifter never felt right to me so after finally pulling the trans( which was allegedly gone through by the p/o) I notice about a 1/4 inch of play forward/backward of 1-2, 3-4 shift linkage arms. Paul helped me verify that my shift linkages and arm were the correct units for my 69 with the Hurst shifter and we also verified that the excessive play in the linkage is coming from the side cover. I will be sending my side cover to Paul so he can make the necessary repair/adjustment to get this assembly shifting like butter. When my trans needs rebuilding It will be going to him also.
In one of his videos he recommended using a stronger spring. Did he recommend changing the forks, levers, spring, also while you have it apart?
I am going to send the side cover to him see he can assess things. I am pretty sure this is a 40ish thousan mile car but I am also confident that the trans has seen some hard shifts in the past..meaning that the shifter was misadjust with the linkage arms causing the excessive wear.
