Remove cassette storage feature from glove box ??
1979 C3 , , L48 , all options -- Glove Box compartment looks like it has been made to take shelving inserts to hold large cassettes and as such not much use for anything else , I am reluctant to modify what might be the original existing components . Looking at parts suppliers catalogs ( Zip , Keen , Paragon , Corvette Central, etc. ) , they all have the smaller parts for the Glove Box , with the main shell detailed in Zip Catalog drawing as " Compartment " and not being an item for sale , Was this shelving an option or original fitment ? or perhaps fitted by a past owner , my take on it all is for me to remove the compartment , remove and save the shelving elements to storage if they were an original GM item , refit the now empty compartment . --- Your comments / suggestions would be appreciated .

The dividers were factory installed when 8track or cassette radios were ordered.
You got it right, remove the box, that will give you enough flexibility to get the dividers out without breaking the tabs, and throw em in a box for the next guy.
