Default Quadrajet Secondary's open

Greetings,
Is it a fault that my secondary butterfly's are open when the car is not running? At an idle, they are closed.

I watched this video:

So, yes I now understand that they should be closed with lite spring tension. Is the allen head locking screw for the spring tension adjusting screw SAE or metric pls?

On the back of the secondary air flap holes closest to the distributor you see two screws that hold the top of the carb on? See how the metal appears to bulge into the space that the airflaps occupy. Make sure that it doesn't hang up on the secondary airflaps. If it does this will prevent them from opening or delay their opening. If it hangs up you'll need to file it flat there to remove the bulge.

Yes, that's a huge problem. The secondary airvalve windup spring is completely out of adjustment. The carb needs a disassembly, rebuild, and proper setup.

Thanks Lars!
I took the carb off and got the spring set to where it closes the flaps. They open with a little pressure and there is no binding. I'm holding off on the rebuild because I have a once a month club meeting I want to attend on Sat. Besides, it runs really good right now, so it's back together

The spec on that is 3/4. That's where you need to set it.
