"The seller is not generous with information and the car is too far away for me to check out without first knowing that it might be worth it". If the seller isn't very forth coming then they are probably hiding something. And why is there oil on the exhaust pipe?
had a few. mostly XJ6's though. be easier to find than a corvette over there. or maybe look for a 63 GTO. not the Pontiac version. they are only about 50 million...
Sure, no problem to find an E-Type, but a BIG problem to afford one. And if you're talking about a Ferrari GTO, well...can't afford to buy and can't afford to actually enjoy it. Seems terrible to me!
I got a price to ship an 1982 CE car to Australia from an East Coast port about 2 months ago , 10k to put it in a container , "about " 4k in a roll on roll off boat. Other reasons stopped the sale .
Whoa! That's a lot! I shipped my '72 BMW 2002tii from Charleston, SC to Rotterdam 18 years ago. I think the whole process cost about €1k, but I can't remember the details. I was but a lowly post-doc' at the time, so I'm sure I chose the cheapest manner for everything.

Yeah, of course, I tend to agree, and have been looking elsewhere, but "elsewhere" in my case means going outside the country, which introduces extra hassles.
So, THANKS EVERYBODY, but I should probably shut this query down. Don't worry, I will definitely be back asking more questions...
i was obviously joking about the ferrari, so, is that 40k euro price in line with what else is available over your way? that is about 50k over here, i think. and i have heard 10k will get one shipped to europe. and 30k will get you a fairly nice one over here. but you need to have 4 or 5 possibles picked out before you jump on an airplane.

I have no way of knowing what your financial situation is, so...maybe you have a garage full of Ferrari's for all I know... ;-)
€40k WOULD be inline with what he's advertising, but I've pointed out to him that the engine is NOT an L46 and therefore, most likely NOT the 350 hp that he claimed in the advert. He clearly just wants me to go away... Which I did!!!
There are only 2 other cars to consider in the NLs at the moment and neither is a real L46.
So, I'm currently looking at what appears to be a '71 LT-1, in France for a similar price. There's a fantastic (read "expensive") L46 in Italy, but while a lot closer than the USA, a bit far and expensive if the LT-1 checks out. I fear that it won't as the seller doesn't mention the term LT-1 in his (very brief) description and the price is low-ish. Likely, there's too much rust or the engine is toast or something like that. I've written the seller with a couple questions.
Hey, thanks a bunch for the purchasing advise.
Cheers,
Steve, in the NLs
my financial situation is broke-*** old guy. so, 40k is price for a special chrome bumper vette, not a plain jane nothing special small block car. i don't think numbers matter as much as the condition of the metal and fiberglass. you can turn any 350, hell even a 305 into what will pass for an L46 or LT1. unless planning on having it judged i would not let that be the main criteria for a vette. especially when it is a boat ride to a bloomington or NCRS event.

Dear B-A.O.G....
I can identify. Gotta sell my baby ('72 BMW 2002tii that I fully restored myself and imported to Europe) in order to pay for what I've wanted since before I could spell "BMW" - a chromey C3. Agree totally about the price being absurd for normal "plain Jane" C3. That's why I'm stuck looking beyond the national borders for something worth €40k. I found something that ticks all the boxes, in France, like I said before. However, as you say and as I wrote to the seller, I first have to confirm that the frame, bird cage, trailing arms, fuel pipe and brake pipes are in good shape. I cannot get involved with a bad frame or bird cage. Also, rebuilding a SBC is not nearly as easy for an amateur like myself in Europe than if I was back "home" in North Carolina. In fact, I'll have to invest in a bunch of non-metric tools, too...
I don't know about any ECRS, but I think there are local chapters of the NCRS.
looking at pic of underside ... looking at pan sump's front-to-back profile ... and its drain position ... it appears the pan is vette-specific (and not a truck nor passenger car).

Wow! Keen eye. I've been doing my C3 homework, but I never would've caught that.
But I guess it only makes sense that if you're gonna replace the engine with some generic SBC, then you may well have to swap the sump over from the original 'Vette engine to the replacement block.
Thanks!
