Trim tag is original. Like I mentioned before it looks like a solid car. It is overpriced by a min of 10k based on other LT1 coupes that have sold recently. Also, I believe the stipes would deduct from that price as well.

For example here is a 1971 LT1 convertible for $5k less asking price:

I agree he is high. I think you are correct. Your example is noted - of course, that car is in Maine, and I'm in Charlotte, so, I'd have to (1) determine if it's a car to buy, and then (2) get it here. I'm not sure the exact cost, but I know it'd add up quick. I am keeping a level head (trying); there are a bunch of these cars; hell - the person doing the inspection tomorrow for me has 7. If this one doesn't work out, I'll buy another one. I'm just trying to balance all the various factors realistically. The various members have been quite helpful to confirm / check things I simply don't know.

That car is in Mass, but I know of a 71 LT1 not far from Auburn Maine!
Sounds like your inspector should be able to give you quite the education. Not sure why distance is such an issure when contemplating a $50K purchase.
Last year I made an appt 2 months out to look at a 71 LT in Florida with 40k original miles with a single owner the last 48 years and it sat for sale over 4 months at $35k. Virtually 1 year ago $50k would have bought you a 71 LT hard top, one owner, 9,400 miles!
I bought mine out of Michigan. Was also able to schedule a visit over 45 days out and the car went no where in between.
Best advice is to lay hands on one or two before pulling the trigger. They are somewhat rare but also plentiful in the market. Prices have likely plateaued near term and I'd bet will come off a boil. As I mentioned pretty sure this car changed hands last year for lot less and my bet is that if it sells in the next few months it will sell for less than 50K or the buyer might wished it had.

Looking at the FB ad you posted the seller has the car listed for $50k firm. You can find a nice LT1 coupe for that price IMHO. Most people tend to buy local cars, but in my experience opening the search to around the country allow you to find the right car at the right money. I know a number of people who could help with inspections, whether up east or elsewhere. If you think the seller is willing to come down 10-15k then that's one thing, but that doesn't seem to realistic given his listing. Either way good luck!

Damn you all are good!! The what’s is it pic was just a blur to me!!

Make an offer and stick to it. You can assign some value for convenience but you need to be realistic about its value .It’s tough!!!

Can you live with the stripe? Repainting the car would be ridiculously expensive and a deal breaker if you cannot. Ike

Is the transmission original with the same vin stamp? Does the seller have the A.I.R. Pump, or is it long gone?
Good luck.

Trans - he represents original - my plan was to confirm tomorrow via inspection

AIR - I honestly don't know what I'm looking at there - so will ask mechanic tomorrow for confirmation

I'd love to get the most for the less. I'm just trying to put together what I can based on helpful discussions with folks here and independent research

Air Injector Reactor, it's described on page 51 in the '71 owner's manual.

I think BAT tends to be extremes. If the crowd likes your car it gets sold at a premium. If the crowd doesn’t like it well it doesn’t.

The market is a little crazy these days. That makes it hard to value sometimes. Again tough one. Ike

Seems very accurate. I had 3 different people refer me today to the same person who is looking at the car for me, so hopefully I get a good feeling from them and feel decent about putting some stock in their opinion. we'll see. Thanks to all.

I had a car shipped from Fla to NY. It cost me $650. The second car I had shipped from Topeka, Kansas to NY was around $650. What made the Fla car so easy was a local mover had a NY to Fla run. He went down to Fla loaded and was coming back empty, Sp he was happy yp get the work. The Kansas to NY was a bit tougher.

There is a site The Online Shipping Marketplace (uship.com). Last time I used it, you put in an amount and a shipper can take you up on it. I don't remember how much I offered, but it was for a car trailer to be brought up from North Carolina.

The statement previously made that expanding your search, will leave you with more options. Done it 3 times, searching the entire nation for a car I wanted.

on buying a car like this: i am not saying pass on it, but it is far less painful to regret the car you should have bought 6 months ago than to regret the car you DID buy 6 months ago when that little voice in your head was saying "Run Forrest, run!" be analytical. be sure. i too hate the stripes. it would make for a near complete paint job. 10k on a car like this. is DUB your guy? he won't steer you wrong. price. if you can afford this car, you are driving to the store and car shows right away. you buy a car needs paint and work to save 20k, you lose 2 years of driving your vette and most if not all of that dollar savings... the high price hurts while spending it. the POS you saved money buying hurts forever.

When I shipped in an enclosed trailer the price was about $1.10/mi. Not sure if that still holds true today. I used SPLP Auto Transport and had a good experience: https://www.splpautotransport.com/

Default update...

Here is the update - sorry for the delay: I have this pesky job that gets in the way. First, I want to again thank you all for the time / knowledge; I really do appreciate your willingness to help me out these last few weeks. Yesterday was an interesting day...

I live in Charlotte, and the seller was in Winston Salem (about an hour & half away). I scrambled and found a shop there to do an inspection for me. I got an incredible referral (actually 3 different people referred me to the same place) - Pats Body Shop. The owner is a lady named Sandra - yep - a lady, who knows her stuff. She owns a towing company / body shop / speed shop; sponsors all the local vette clubs, and owns about 8 vettes currently. She's a character.

The inspection: the seller felt the car was "perfect for a 71". She knew the seller. I realized immediately upon meeting her their connection was not a problem. She started by pointing out a couple bubbles in the paint. He didn't care for that & her explanation of the consequences, so he sort of snapped back with a snarky comment. So, I think that kinda took a bit of her desire for using extra tact to preserve feelings out. She noted several additional problems - uneven shims in the cross-members, exactly where the fender had been worked on from a wreck (just as suspected from one of the very knowledgeable members that spotted that in a photo); and a couple minor things. I then took the car for a test drive (and I took her with me). I drove out / she drove back (he wasn't pleased). I noted a few things; she noted more. Mainly the clutch was worn & she felt the car wasn't tracking right essentially. He wanted 50K; she valued it a 30-35K (a decent driver).

Negotiations - He still thought he was getting 50K; I had a 1K deposit down (and he didn't think I'd walk from it). I told him I liked the car, but couldn't justify 50K; He responded with "you thought the car was worth 50K yesterday". I responded with "actually, no I didn't; I just didn't tell you that; I've sent every bit of info. you gave me and I got to numerous people to help me & she just confirmed / expanded on their opinions. It's a 30K car; nothing wrong with that; I just can't give you 50K." He got mad and left."

When I first got there & met Sandra, she told me she wanted to take me down and show me her collection regardless of how the inspection worked out; so, we went down to her "she-shed", ha. Some damn nice cars in there. As we walked in, I was telling her that I really liked white and Ontario orange the best; I just love the look of those two colors on the particular year body styles I like. She laughed as the opened the door, and said "I wasn't going to bring this up until whatever happened with you two worked out however". In her garage, she had several lifts; sitting on top of one was a '69 C3. She called her guys down there and had them dig it out. I drove it / looked it over / and bought that car from her. It ended up just being one of those funny things that works out.

It's a '69 white / black top convertible (also has the hard top). Manual 4 speed 350. 80K miles; numbers matching; air, in great shape; it's just a way... better car I think than the blue one I went to look at. Now... I'm a bit of a pessimist so I'm always worried about the 'what if' angle, and I immediately thought about "well now my inspection lady is the seller, so I have nobody to inspect". But, I feel quite good about this car. (maybe I get burned.). She provided a 3 ring binder (I went through last night) that includes documentation tracing the car back through 3 prior owners to 1971. It's incredibly detailed: has a bunch of annual registrations showing mileage; it had a restoration at some point (a ton of receipts for every little thing in there); the various bills of sale / titles; etc. I was able to work a solid price with her on the car. When I have a chance, I will post some additional photos. These are all I have for now.
