Default C3 ‘69 wiper door actuator install Tips

Having trouble installing a new wiper door actuator without damaging the main diaphragm and/or rear shaft seal. Anyone with advice or tips for getting the actuator installed successfully please respond. Also needing to know how many threads should be showing on the actuator shaft when properly adjusted. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated!

Since no one has jumped on

The actuator is a little different than on my 72 but it's all more or less the same

With the actuator not bolted up, I just start the coupling nut onto the rod in the car as little as I can 3/4 turn type of thing and then bring the actuator rod up and get it lined up and turn the nut more, if it doesn't engage within about 1/2 a turn I back it off and rotate the actuator some and try again, once it's engaged, turn the nut a few time to make sure it's on and then bring the actuator into it's bolts and keep turning the nut until you can bolt the actuator on.
The setting for length in the AIM for the 69 is from the jamb nut to the rim on the actuator can 3/8 +/- 1/8" with the piston bottomed out in the actuator and the door in the closed position

Good stuff, thank you. My jam nut does not turn on the shaft that extends into the wiper tray. I end up threading the actuator shaft/rod onto the jam nut and then turning the whole actuator housing to engage the shaft threads into the jam nut more and more. I’ve attempted to break the jam nut free without success. I should I keep trying to get the jam nut free so I can install the actuator as you described?

If you can get the adjustment without touching the jam nut, remember it doesn't need to be exactly centered in the coupling nut so you could run it father into the link that goes to the door by 3 or 4 turns so that it doesn't hit that frozen jam nut and then use a little blue loctite and don't risk breaking the actuator. you might be able to add a jam nut to the other side but I'm not sure you can get at it to tighten.

If you need to move that jam nut to get the adjustment correct, Soaking in pb blaster and double nut the free end and but the other wrench on there so there's no force on the actuator itself
