I just bought a 81 corvette, and do have original engine,a new cam and lifters were replaced in the late 90s,but the owner went back with everything stock, even have the original carburetor and distributor, and did find out this was the first year corvette had a computer or electronic carburetor,so wondering what a lot of people are going with combination wise carburetor and distributor to replace the stock ones.
Congratulations. Sounds like you have a nice stock, unmolested car. Unless you're looking to make a hot rod, leave the feedback carburetor, EST distributor CCC system alone. Most guys here hate the CCC system. I think it's a pretty decent system. Besides that the way Joe Biden's gas is going having a CCC system is a good thing!
Yea,no doubt.with the gas prices, and yea from what I can tell,it runs fine, although when you first crank it up,it idles high, but just a tap real quick on the gas pedal, she goes right down.lol....
And I took the passenger door panel off,to try and adjust the window and put the clip on for the door lock, the inside of door panel has a crack probably 10-12 inches at the top,it’s not fiberglass, but want to patch it back up,so wondering should I use fiberglass,or just body filler,or is there something else I should use, also for support.
one layer of glass mat should do to hold the door panel together won't bond that well,
but it doesn't hafta be that strong either. any check engine lights? including when you turn on the key before cranking it? and they all rev high when stone cold it is the norm with carbs with chokes.
I am a CCC system hater. It is an archaic system with little benefit......
I can tune a pre-1980 Vette to run better and get better fuel economy than the stock CCC.
That said.....if it runs fine now....don't mess with it.....unless you really want to.
BUT....if I bought it and it was here.....it would receive about $1000 worth of mods to the engine alone that would 100% enhance the driving experience and make a 14 second car out of it without cracking the engine open (intake doesn't count).
I have done three or four Vette's like this, CCC and non-CCC.....not one of the customers were disappointed. 14 seconds and 16 MPG with a heavy foot is not a bad deal for a Jimmy Cater era car....let me tell you.
Those rims polished look amazing! These older C3's sure do have a lot of character.
Interesting, I pimped out an old C3 many years ago with a lot of shiny stuff. Might not be the look you're going for but the windshield pillars and side skirts are stainless steel and the back window surround is silver anodized aluminum. The stainless can be easily polished and the aluminum window surround can be paint stripped. The middle panel under the roof is also stainless and polishes up super shiny.
