I hate electrical, I can look at the books but I just don't have the ability to figure it out. I can frame a house and do 98% of the AC wiring but the old fashion door bell with two or 3 buzzers kills me or a complicated 3 wall switch when the power comes into the light.
Couple of questions, I have a 69 with AC, PW, PB, PW, speed warning indicator
Trying to finish the dash installation and was going to make sure the drivers and middle gage light bubs worked before I installed the middle section. After pulling everything apart I am putting everything back together, the original wiring harness was very good so I thought this would be easy'ish. The battery is charged and voltage is 13.1, there is no steering column, I have the left dash ground to the side A pillar installed and the ground near drivers #1 body mount. Light switch is installed. Should the dash bulbs work at this point? I pulled the light switch thing out and turned the **** and nothing. How would I test the power to the lights?
Next - the car had a aftermarket radio and the installation required a few splices into the main harness... 80's hacks. This white wire in the photo, where should it go or do I need to remove it? I am going to install the original radio that I picked up. I can't see what it was attached to and well forgot or don't have a pic
If you have a good ground, then yes at this point your dash lights should light. I would start chasing wiring with a good test light. Power into headlight switch? power out of headlight switch? Power to sockets? If yes to all above then Ground. If no, chase the issue.
Sorry, All of this sounds incredibly simple to me.
Think of it like plumbing. the water needs to get to the tap. the water has to flow through the tap when it's opened. the water runs through the pipe to (in this case the light socket) but then if it can't get out of the socket. (bad ground = plugged drain). Then the flow stops.
As far as the speedometer/tachometer lighting all but the brake warning light is a single wire socket.
If each housing is grounded (ground lug provided at each housing) each single wire lamp should work.
The brake warning light should work in or out of housing by pulling the parking brake handle a few clicks. The parking brake switch serves as the ground path to that bulb.
Finally had some time to clean up the fuse box. Cleaned up all the contacts without breaking anything and got some new fuses. I will start chasing to see why there is no power.
Where does this white wire off the ignition plug go? I don't have specific pictures of the area before the tear down and my lack of skills can't see those wires in the diagrams I have.
From: South of Phoenix Arizona, but North of no-where.
I may have missed the point where you said about having trouble with electrical……that’s me! I feel like a dog reading Liberal memes on the Corvette Forum ……
”Whaaaat the hell is that jerk trying to say? “ [insert large grin here]
anyhow, a GREAT cure for the electrical confusion is the free wiring diagrams offered by PAPAWANA in the forums.
in fact the offer is right below your thread.
they send them email, you print out a few pages and you are in business.
my grandaughter loaned me her colored pen set and we printed off a couple different sets, glued them together and colored in all the wire codes for different systems on different sets and Perfect!
well, not actually perfect because the color code may not match exact but really helped me understand electrical..( I still feel like a dog trying to understand liberals though! )

Thanks, my AIM is not as clear as PAPAWANA's so I will reach out and get my kids crayons out. I'll still will never fully understand ohms, résistance and amps but at least I know my limitations.
I am fond of the Oriole...I guess I have an orange issue. Spring is here we heard them in the backyard today.
The white wire of your concern looks to be spliced into the accessory wire. Use it to supply voltage to anything (radio?) when the key is on.
Thanks for the confirmation Old Man in a C! There was an aftermarket radio and classic equalizer so I suspected they were the cause. Wasn't sure because it was installed in what looked like a factory male connector and I couldn't see any lose wires. Good to know I can remove it and continue with the troubleshooting.
Cleaning the fuse box and replacing the broken fuses produced one success - the passenger side courtesy/open door light works (drivers doesn't). Tomorrow is all about electrical, I better have lots of beer to help me get through this. Trying to fire this car up in the next couple of weeks.
