Wondering besides some type of vacuum what is this part name? And I’m replacing everything on top Edelbrock heads, intake, carburetor and HEI distributor,so,I’m hoping I don’t have to put it back,it’s ugly and there beside the the distributor.do most people use this or not?
Looking at that part and all the crap bolted to it reminds me of how quickly performance was drained away mid-70’s into the 80’s. That thing looks like a bundle of no fun.
Don’t trash it.
if you plan to never use it again, post it on the Parts For Sale section. There are a few of us 81/82’ers living in communist-affiliated states that have to smog our cars. (Fortunately I live in a mostly free state.)
Even so, there may be some NCRS owners who could use it.
Got any “Before” engine bay pics, so we can see the difference when you are done?
double check your local emissions rules if you don't already know them for sure. replacing intake to non-egr. what about carb and distributor? most have eliminated the CCC carb setup by now. and the ecm that "controls" the carb. and the distributor has to leave with the carb when that happens.
Like stated above, those two solenoids are for the emissions/egr system. The long round part with the white wires coming off of it is the tach filter. Plugs in between the distributor and the tachometer. You may still need it if your tach acts funny when you get your car running again. Seems some people had no trouble with the tach after removing it but others have had tach weirdness when they eliminated it.
