I just purchased my very first Corvette, 1976. Was 'told' it was all original, but its obviously not, but no biggie. I have researched the Engine Code and Engine ID and I am trying to figure out if its a 327 or 350 and if its a 1698 or 1969, (I'm told its a 350) Here are my numbers:CASTING NUMBER: 3956618 ENGINE id AND CODE : 791159179 T0616HM
Vin: 1Z37X6S417382
The HM tells me its a 65, 68 or 69
But the Casting number says is a 1968 or 1969, so that eliminated the 1965.
So now is it a 1968/69 327 2 bolt
or a 1969 350 4 bolt?
T= Tonowanda 06= June 16= 16th day HM= HM 69 350 250 2B,TH350 PA is a 350ci 250hp 2 barrel carb turbo hydromatic trans passenger vehicle. 791159179 Partial VIN but was in 159,179 vehicle built of that type.
doesn't mean it IS a 250 hp 350. but it WAS. i assume the 2 barrel carb and intake are not there? that is the biggest diff between a 250 and 300 hp 350. but it could have been rebuilt and be somewhat special. higher compression. more cam. better internals... there is no knowing what has been done to that engine. buying a cheap ebay or amazon borescope and getting a look at pistons and crankshaft may be worth doing. then you can also do pelvic exams for all your wife's girlfriends...
