Default VIN strange numbers

I am looking to buy another 1980 vette and vin number on the title starts With FLA. i thought 1980 starts with 1Z?

update, spoke to the owner and he said it’s a assigned tag from florida. Original vin tag lost. Is this red flag?

he’s asking 10K but needs seats, head, light work, shifter linkage boot. I believe it has 162K miles even it shows 62K. Title does not state odometer brand being actual. He was asking 12K but dropped it down to 10K.

If it has a 4-speed and no rust, it is still worth $10K. Buy it to drive it, not as an investment.

If the engine is original, you can work out the original VIN from the engine stamp. Post pics!

Have the seller explain the replacement VIN. What's the story behind it?

That strikes me as an odd statement for someone who bought a specialty car - not sure I believe him. I would be cautious about the work done while under his ownership. Just doesn't sit well with me.

Have you seen the title? If that "FLA" VIN is 16 digits, you might even be able to title check it.

If you have a title, and the price is right, buy it and enjoy it. Just make sure it wasn't formerly wrecked and restored.
