I am in the process of doing the conversion from Auto TH400 to Richmond super T10 4 speed on my 1970 vert .I have bought a new repro bellhousing (with GM stamp and not CM but probably the same) and a counterforce flywheel. After several measurment it appears that the max run out was .017'' then .0085'' centerline.
I know there is offset dowel pin available and would reduce the run out but it seems to be not so easy at the moment to remove the original's one,I am asking me if its really necessary to get 0.005 or less with this old school transmission. Sorry for my poor writting.

No it is not on the old four speeds. GM never did it and there is plenty of room for deflection in the input shaft. It is very imperative for 5 and 6 speeds as there is no deflection in their design.,
I went though this last summer and I had the Engineer for the McLeod Muscle car 5 Speed, which is the base design for the Tremec TKX, explain it to me.
