You're correct on the "bump", but if you look closely the bumper doesn't appear to be centered.

Just to satisfy my curiosity I googled "carter quadrajet carburetor 7041002" and an eBay listing came up with a match for a 1971 Chevy Qjet. So your carburator is probably right for a '71 Chevy Corvette. It was listed at $125. My theory is that Carter didn't necessarily use the same product numbers as Rochester. Thats the only reason why I suspect the 5th digit is a 0 instead of a 2 for a 4 barrel, which is the only digit that seems unusual in your carburator's number.

that is a casting number on the throttle plate. it is meaningless. the carb number location is as shown in post 34. left side above and behind the rear throttle plate pivot. 70 or 170 means built by rochester. but carter q-jets used the same 70 or 170 numbers. the date for carters is a letter-number 2 digit stamp instead of 4 numbers like rochester. only tells month and year.

Sorry for all the false starts on this carb numbering; however, I finally was able to get the number. It looks like 17058218 or that last digit could be a 3. Under it is a 1673 and a 3JB or could be BJB. Anyway, it isn't the carb the car came with. Here are some photos:
