Picked up a tilt/tele steering column for my 69 and from what I have seen on the form it looks like a 70 or 71 column. Some one had rebuilt half of it but there was no ignition key and the paint job was **** so I just pulled it fully apart. There was also a box of old parts that came with it. Comparing some of the old vs new parts I noticed that the ignition switch rod was a different length. The rod in the box also looks like a piece broke off the end that connects into the ignition switch.
I read that 68 to 75 are the same column but is the ignition rod different for the years? Or does the rod and ignition switch from the kit that the previous owner bought work together? The new ignition switch was not on the column when I bought it so I am not sure if they fit and I can't check because it is in many pieces. I can probably weld a piece onto the older rod if required. I have gone through Jim Shea's excellent documents but I have not found a length different comment.
Here is the original versus the one that was new in the "rebuilt" column:
The 77 to 82 Vette used a shorter rod, and the 69 to 76 Cadillac, Olds, Buick tilt tele used a shorter rod. The 69 to 76 Corvette tilt tele used the longest rod.
