Default Painting Question

I am painting some parts including the horn button. What do I use to cover the emblem so I can spray paint it. I tried to tape it and cut it with a knife and I suck at that. Anything else I can use to cover the emblem area so I can paint the rim blue?

You could, at great risk, drill out the rivets in back, then replace them when you are done.

Otherwise, I've had good luck with the green Frog tape and an X-Acto knife.

Rub grease or vasoline on the center that you don't want painted. wipe off after paint has dried.

Don’t drill the rivets. Get the thinnest 1” masking tape you can and lay a strip in the middle. Using a small screwdriver, carefully “pack” the tape into the radius between the emblem and the bezel. Using an exacto knife, with light pressure and holding the blade at a 45 degree angle, carefully trace the tip of the blade in the radius to cut and remove the excess tape. Tape a second strip just slightly overlapping the first, repeat the process of “packing” the tape into the radius and tracing the tip of the blade to cut and remove the excess. Repeat on the other side. Repeat as necessary to fully cover the emblem.

Jobs like this take time and patience.

Many years ago as a sign painting apprentice we would use a liquid like latex and roll it on plastic, pounce our pattern then cut out the areas we wanted painted first through last.
I can not remember the "name" or even if it's still used but I found this product that looks interesting and I might even buy it for my project. Thanks for asking the question

Clean it off really well with soapy water and a brush ...and hot water, and let it dry. Who knows how many coats of Armor-all have been put on it over the years...
