Have 1972 454. Cabin is hot hot hot. How do I determine if the vacum operated heater shut off valve is operating properly and fully shutting of the flow to heater?
Or simply replace heater hoses with pipe plugs. No hoses going to the heater core = no heat.
Of course I live in tropical Queensland. No need for heat.
Its not safe to completely remove the operation of the heater core. There will be days when you need warm defrost / defogging.
However, you can remove the Vac Control Valve on the heater hose and throw it as far as you can. ****-poor design on a vehicle with so many vacuum accessories.
NAPA sells a manual shut-off valve in both 5/8" or 3/4", your choice for about $25. You can install that valve in place if the GM engineers not-so brilliant idea.
The valve can be opened in Spring or Fall and closed all Summer or cracked open a smidge. Fully adjustable.
And it does not look like it came off a washing machine at Home Depot.
