I'm changing the driver's side dash on a 72. I plan to change the speakers while they are accessible, all new bulbs, new headlight switch, and new ball vents. Is there anything else I should look at while I have it all apart?
Thats great to know. I am working to ensure that every function of the car is operable. I have the courtesy lights working now but the passenger side stays on so there needs to be some adjustment work there.
The harness appears to be in good shape. I sent the radio to a guy in Canada to completely restore and add modern components, HD, Bluetooth, etc, while maintaining the OEM look and functionality. Does anyone know the color of the light in the radio? I have seen some that have a green tint and others that are not.
Install LEDs from Superbright and get rid of the heat from incandescent bulbs. Purchase the LEDs in each appropriate color, and make sure you get the LEDs that are NOT Polarity Sensitive. I would spend the money to have your tach and speedo refurbished by a professional shop, also get new cables unless you are certain the existing ones are good. You won’t believe the pain trying to get the dash panel back in. My problem was the wiring harness, that is like a steel cable, because it’s 50 years old. This was the most job that I have done on my Corvette, and I never want to do it again! Lots of guys remove the steering column, but you need a helper. I lowered the steering column and it gives you a little more room to operate. Don’t rush, the old vinyl covered plastic is just waiting to break.
Thanks Eliredandblack, I had to lower the steering column myself. Now Im concerned about getting it all back together. I need to order some LED's that have more of a yellow glow so they look factory. I dont like the super bright white look in a old school car.
