Default 1979 Back Glass

So I am standing about 10’ from the car Sunday on a 90° day, when I hear a loud boom and see glass in the driveway. The back glass exploded, I am assuming due to the high temps.

Has anyone had any luck finding a new back glass for these cars, or is a salvage yard my only hope?

I have had the car for 27 years and know that I am the third owner. I tracked down the second owner and he bought the car from a friend. No significant body damage was ever done to the car. Someone did back into the left door in a parking lot that required minor fiberglas repair when the first owner had it. If there is an issue with stress, it has been there for 43 years. Really bizarre how this happened.

Thanks for that. Right now my insurance company is trying to work through a local glass shop. That is a great resource though. Thanks for sharing the link. I really would rather not get into shipping a large auto glass right now. It may come to that though.

if insurance is covering it, drink beer. let them find it and get it here. flyskidsup knows of a couple in u-pull-it yards in jacksonville fl. probably too much drive for you if they are there.

That’s the plan. Will see what happens. I doubt they will find a new glass though.

They show the 80 that I pulled the differential from back in April still there. The back window was in good shape at that time.

That was in April so would more on this quick

Get these tools from harbor freight if you don't have already for window removal:
https://www.harborfreight.com/4-piec...set-38386.html
The arrow one will quickly get the molding off.
And this:

Good luck!

Thanks, but I am on the southwest side of Louisiana. There has to be other options closer. Thanks for the info though.

I recall there is a really good corvette salvage/junk yard in Mississippi. I need some small part that I couldn't find, but they had it. Pretty sure this is the place. https://www.corvettesalvage.com/
Good luck, Bill

Seems theres 78-82 back glass at every Corvette swap I go to, and they arent selling. If insurance isnt paying, thats the place to get a nice one cheap that someone doesnt want to take home. (Bloomington Gold is this weekend )

A little far for me. I am in Louisiana, close to Texas and about 30 miles from the Gulf. I imagine there should be lots of them around since they made a whole lot of Corvettes between 78-82. Still holding out for the glass shop to run one down.
