Default New Member, 68 Corvette

Jim Hufford in Florida. I have been reading some of the information on the forums and decided to become a member to help to the cause.

I am doing a complete frame replacement and rebuild on my 68 Corvette. I have had the car for 28 years and have never had it tagged. Spent 8 1/2 years contracting in Afghanistan so I had the money but wasn't home to work on the car. Now I get to work on it. After my car was painted I found out my frame was rotted out at the rear, so I bought a 69 frame. I also bought a 427 Corvette tri power to replace the 1974 Corvette 350 that was in the car. In the end I will be glad I did, but little did I know how much I was going to have to find when going from the small block to the big block. Adding AC so I had to find an original AC idler pulley and replace the bearing. Had to buy all the big block pulleys, power steering, water pump, crank, seven blade fan and fan clutch. Went with 550# big block springs and QA1 shocks. Looks like I am going to have to buy the big block fan shroud $$$$. Car was already four wheel disc brakes, so I rebuilt the original calipers. I sandblasted and painted almost every part on the car.

Before the Corvette I stripped a 68 Camaro I bought in 2019 down to nothing and rebuilt it from the ground up. Now I am waiting for the guy that painted my 68 Corvette to get the Camaro painted so I can reassemble.

I took a ton of pictures if anyone needs any help on anything. A few pictures attached for your enjoyment.

Jim - welcome to the forum and good luck with your C3.

I am moving this thread over to the C3 General section where other C3 owners can comment on your car.

Nice project. The car looks great and you have a nice fully equipped garage. I have had my 68 since 1972. Where are you in Florida? Jerry

Jerry,

I have a 2,000 Sq. Ft. Garage with 2 four post lifts and just about everything I need to work on cars. I live in Port St John between Titusville and Cocoa.
