From your picture you can see a large flat washer at the top. I thought that one half of your rubber body mounts had a metal sleeve inside. Lou.

Well the passenger side #4 cage nut finally twisted off after much soaking with PB Blaster. The bolt head had sheared off weeks ago and after banging the cage loose, the cage square nut wouldn't budge! Even Lou68 came by to lend a hand with no luck. We concluded the nut had seized to the bolt as well as the top washer of the rubber cushion mount. The washer includes, I believe, a shroud the bolt rides in, I guess to protect the rubber cushion from the metal bolt. Based on the comments above, got the impression there was the limited experience in removing these rubber cushions.

The next day went to the steel shop and got the 1 1/4" square tube, six inches long. Set it on top of the cage nut, and using a large crescent wrench, applied even pressure and it finally gave way (see photo). Those rubber cushions use metal washers to concentrate to maintain the pressure within the brackets.

Tom,

Now THAT is a slick solution right there! Always a problem to to get a wrench on the nut since it sits in a recess and you can't get enough torque using a twelve point socket as you will just round off the corners. I would imagine that if you get the wrench positioned correctly, one person might be able to do this job.

Going to borrow that one!

Regards,

Stan
