Default Pace Car - Buying Advice

Found this pace car replica in Norway.

Seller wants 18.000 Dollars for it. With plate's on it in Denmark it's going to be around 21.000 Dollars. Only seen one for sale in my country, and i do not remember the price.

Is the 1978 Pace car edition going to go more up in value compared to the other 1970's C3's?

It looks quite good, and over average condition. Birdcage looks healthy and frame looks healhy paint looks average / above average to me.
Windscreen wipers, and front left brake caliper is leaking a little. That's it, he told me.

What is your opinion on the price, and condition of the car? and what is the average price for one of these?
I really appreciate all your inputs, it help's me alot. I don't know anybody in my local community that is an expert on Vette's

It's a really nice car. I may have missed it, but how many miles? Check the heater core for any obvious leaks, they are a pain to fix. Check the power steering, the hoses and the cylinder and the valve. Also the AC, mine was expensive to fix.

All the above can be fixed with time and money. All I'm saying is know what the car is.

Well it does look very nice, Not sure what the market in Europe is, but buy it if you like it. Take it for a long test drive and have it checked out by a professional.

Looks cool! It has a replacement composite rear spring, which indicates to me it has been worked on, and actually driven!

Look for rust behind the kickpanels, but the VIN tag looks very clean.

I would never buy a classic car with an automatic, unless I planned to convert it. To get a TKX or T56 shipped to Denmark might be expensive.

I have attached a picture of kick panels, and it looks very clean. Automatic is a plus for me :-)

Looks like an early build G29 (looks like C29 but the G is a weak stamp) with VIN 1291. Check for a yellow spare tire rim. Hard to tell what the original motor configuration was given the mods done to the engine compartment and exhaust system. Fifth digit in the VIN shows an L48 while looks like the exhaust manifold and mufflers were replaced which means probably the catalytic converter was removed. Many engine mods has others noted above. The master cylinder looks replaced and if a caliper is leaking, assume all will need to be rebuilt, in fact probably the entire brake system...if you do it an easy $1k!

The interior looks like it was cared for which is typical with these late-model C3s...bodies and interior are well cared for while the chassis shows the sins of neglect!

The price seems fair given what I've seen but the offset is the repairs required. An L48 did not have the AIR emission system equipped from the factory but did have the catalytic converter to reduce emissions.

What makes a G29 and what is C29? What's the difference? What kind of neglect do you see, other than the surface rust on the bottom side?

Based on the pictures there is nothing that would make me not own this car. Can't speak to value in your neck of the woods but if it's the right car for you than buy it, good examples of these cars are getting harder to find.

You can determine the car's birthday using the code on the trim tag. G29 was 29 March 1978, for a Pace Car. Lots of other codes at the link (go up one for trim, paint, engine, VIN, etc.)

In 1978 if the trim tag showed the letter "C" it was built in November 1977. Since Pace Cars were not produced until March that letter is a "G".

I have decided, that this is going to be the one! Traveling to see it on Thursday.

The final price is 17.700 Dollars

Going to bring a trailer, because he says it's leaking from a front brake caliper, other than that, the radio isn't working, and the wipers need to be looked at. He says that's it.

The point is unless you crawl under there, you don't see what the neglect has been. For example, you note the caliper leaks...what about the others? And then there are leaks from the engine, power steering, transmission and differential.

the G and C thing. there was a bad G they used. most of the hook was gone so it looked like a C. i thought it was 71 or 72, but it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they used a screwy stamp for years. looks like a very clean car. if you got leaks, you gotta wrench and swear and get oily. if you got frame or bird cage damage, you gotta learn how to mig weld and have a 3 car garage. frame in 1 bay. body in second bay. all the stuff you had to remove in the 3rd bay. i will take a leak or two any day. we love to scream IT IS A POS!!! RUN!!! none of us are saying that.
