I installed a bolt on cowl onto my hood, I only saw one other post about this mod. It’s cheaper than a brand new hood and does give a lot more hood clearance. If anyone else is considering this,
i used a harwood 4114 bolt on cowl. Quality was nice, fitment had no issues. The supplied hardware was cheap junk and I used higher quality bolts for the actual install.
cutting the hood I used a fine metal blade on the jigsaw. It was alright. I should have used more layers of tape to prevent the base of the jigsaw from scratching the paint. It was difficult to keep the paint from chipping. Luckily the cowl covers it.
Overall, I like it and it’s way better than driving without a hood on.
lol, between the edelbrock eps intake and nitrous plate I had no room. The 4 inch cowl is a little overkill now, but the next mod it’ll get is a blower.
I get the point that this was less expensive than a new hood.
But in my honest opinion. It looks less expensive than a new hood.
And yes. For gods sake paint it.
That would help the appearance a great deal.
Looks good! Are you going to show us what's under the cowl?
nothing too crazy, just a 355 SBC, makes 401 RWHP with the NOS(a lot of people don’t seem to be a fan of the gas). The air filter sticks up about an inch through the cut hood.
