He said Chevrolet higher ups were pushing all the small blocks saying why would you buy this BB when the gas is so expensive , you can still own a corvette and save on gas ..
I'm trying to picture myself going to a dealership (in 2022) expecting to buy a Camaro ZL1 or a Challenger Hellcat and leaving with a V6 model because the salesman said I can save on gas.
Was the generation of adults back then really that moronic and wishy-washy? lol

This thread has gone off on a tangent but I can comment on February 1973. The first Arab oil embargo with resulting lines at the gas stations and the odd and even license plate days. Typical premium at the time went from .35 per gallon to about .50 per gallon if you could get it. I know seems like nothing today but that was sticker shock. People were dumping their 8 cylinder cars for 6 cylinder and any offshore 4 cylinder they could find. I on the other hand bought my 69 350/350 that month being single and not having alot of expenses.

Funny, that's how I purchased my '69 350/350 4 speed coupe, I was working along side a co-worker sewing cable in a 4A switching office in downtown Tampa. He was complaining about the price of gas when filling up his Corvette.....$8! Said he wanted to sell it, so I looked at it after work and bought it the next day. Other guys at work said I was crazy to pay $2,800 for a 5 year old Corvette. Sold it 2 years later for $3,400 and bought my '71 LS5.
Right now my engine builder (ECAM) has my '72 LS5 for a rebuild. He is raising the compression to 10:1 and using a mild roller cam. After he is finished with that, I'm taking my '70 L46 and getting the compression lowered to 10:1 and also adding a roller cam. Both should run good on today's Ethanol free gas.
