You are correct, it is more rare but I don't think that matters to most newer C3 buyers and if you see the original posters quote above, he is simply looking for a good car and I don't blame him.... I don't think we are at the point where the average and majority of c3 buyers are looking at the rarity of base cars/colors/options, most want a nice car they can afford, drive and enjoy, black, yellow or whatever.-(I'd love to have a Yellow one).. To me, right now, C3s are the last of the classic Vettes and the most affordable because them made so many of them. C5 & 6 are the best hotrod buys out there right now but they are a long way from being classics in the general publics view and that's why they are a good buy-(reasonable price).. Bottom line, I think if 100 people look at this car, only a few will know and even care if black cars were 9%, but all of them will want to know about the rebuilt engine and the rest of the mechanics and aesthetics ... Don't get me wrong, I agree with you and respect your knowledge, I just dont think many buyers are swayed by those things on these cars, not yet anyways.
Me included, my present car came with new crate motor, rebuilt trans, new cooling, brakes, exhaust, Bilstiens, tires, Steeroids, Seats and interior, Weather stripping, and a paint job you need to see to believe, at a little over half what this car is asking.... Mine is a corvette color but not the original one... wish it was but I just wanted a driver and I have one...Just got back from making a beer run, guy at a 4 way intersection gave me a big smile and thumbs up...He didn't care about the color either...LOL

That could indicate that the manifolds have been replaced with manifolds from the mid 60's fuelie engine, which had a native 2.5" outlet. You can use the 65 downpipes and connect them to the factory big block secondaries to make a complete system (that's what I did).
Again, this is only relevant IF you need to have emissions compliance on the car. But if you do, I would ask for pictures of the exhaust manifolds and see if you can see the AIR plugs in them. If not, and you need emissions, you will need to not only replace the manifolds, but will also need to replace the flapper that sits in the exhaust on the passenger side as well. Those things will add up.

For this kind of money (its all the money and still needs to come down) the numbers have to be right. 4 speed is nice, for sure.
The underside looks like its been ignored as many of these cars have been. It does seem like someone at some point tried a black spray bomb underside restoration and its mostly falling off now. That half-painted spare tire tub is a poor decision.
Echoing the suggestion that your choice of inspector is everything, particularly if you are not qualified to judge it, even if you do see it in person. If you get an auctioneer, car dealer, or “appraiser” who does not have personal knowledge of 1978 Corvettes, you are wasting your inspection time and money.
