I have no comment on the price, but would argue that it's more rare than a Pace Car edition and far rarer than an Anniversary edition. Only 9.8% of all '78's were black while PCs account for 13.9% and SAs for 32.7%. That said, black was the highest production regular color; yellow is a true rarity at 2.7%. I recall discussion at the time, about all the folks who were buying and storing the PCs and SAs as collector items, that neither were produced in small enough numbers to be rare. Don't get me wrong, I think both PCs and SAs stand out and look great, but that's only due to the fact that other years do not share the colors - same with the '82 Collector Edition (which was ~27% of production).

And a 4 speed.
op can you post the video referenced, trim tag, and vin at the windshield..
regardless it will always need work..
No catastrophic rust , collision , and drives with everything working…you are ahead of the game..
looks like a typical used car wash it power wash the crap off..ask top retail and hope they get it.
20 is a start..
These arediy enjoyable cars..not an investment per say..other than coolness

This would be my first classic so I was looking for something that wouldn't be too high maintenance compared to lower-priced C3s
but would argue that it's more rare than a Pace Car edition and far rarer than an Anniversary edition.

You are correct, it is more rare but I don't think that matters to most newer C3 buyers and if you see the original posters quote above, he is simply looking for a good car and I don't blame him.... I don't think we are at the point where the average and majority of c3 buyers are looking at the rarity of base cars/colors/options, most want a nice car they can afford, drive and enjoy, black, yellow or whatever.-(I'd love to have a Yellow one).. To me, right now, C3s are the last of the classic Vettes and the most affordable because them made so many of them. C5 & 6 are the best hotrod buys out there right now but they are a long way from being classics in the general publics view and that's why they are a good buy-(reasonable price).. Bottom line, I think if 100 people look at this car, only a few will know and even care if black cars were 9%, but all of them will want to know about the rebuilt engine and the rest of the mechanics and aesthetics ... Don't get me wrong, I agree with you and respect your knowledge, I just dont think many buyers are swayed by those things on these cars, not yet anyways.

Me included, my present car came with new crate motor, rebuilt trans, new cooling, brakes, exhaust, Bilstiens, tires, Steeroids, Seats and interior, Weather stripping, and a paint job you need to see to believe, at a little over half what this car is asking.... Mine is a corvette color but not the original one... wish it was but I just wanted a driver and I have one...Just got back from making a beer run, guy at a 4 way intersection gave me a big smile and thumbs up...He didn't care about the color either...LOL

I know nothing about this car other than it looks clean in the pics. You can use it to compare. Link may need cut & pasted.

In addition to all that has been mentioned regarding the exhaust modifications and the lack of an AIR pump, that exhaust looks identical to what I had in my car at one point. The secondary pipes look to be from the 73 or so big block cars, but it's the front drop down that caught my eye. The pipes seem to be 2.5" all the way back, which could indicate that the rams horn exhaust manifolds are not from a 1978 L-82. The correct exhaust manifolds for the car would have the AIR pipe holes (plugged off at this point since the system appears to be removed) and would have a 2.25" outlet with the downpipes starting with a 2.25" diameter and then enlarging to 2.5". I don't see the smaller part of the pipes.

That could indicate that the manifolds have been replaced with manifolds from the mid 60's fuelie engine, which had a native 2.5" outlet. You can use the 65 downpipes and connect them to the factory big block secondaries to make a complete system (that's what I did).

Again, this is only relevant IF you need to have emissions compliance on the car. But if you do, I would ask for pictures of the exhaust manifolds and see if you can see the AIR plugs in them. If not, and you need emissions, you will need to not only replace the manifolds, but will also need to replace the flapper that sits in the exhaust on the passenger side as well. Those things will add up.

Maybe I missed it, but is the engine original? Have the numbers been examined? Is the trim tag correct? Black over red is a premium resale combo but not if the car was originally white.

For this kind of money (its all the money and still needs to come down) the numbers have to be right. 4 speed is nice, for sure.

The underside looks like its been ignored as many of these cars have been. It does seem like someone at some point tried a black spray bomb underside restoration and its mostly falling off now. That half-painted spare tire tub is a poor decision.

Echoing the suggestion that your choice of inspector is everything, particularly if you are not qualified to judge it, even if you do see it in person. If you get an auctioneer, car dealer, or “appraiser” who does not have personal knowledge of 1978 Corvettes, you are wasting your inspection time and money.
