I could certainly see a different supplier as to the minor changes but as for the RPO, I guess the General did what the General wanted.

Probably a cheaper production method allowing a slight cost savings. That seems to be the reason for a lot of these minor changes.

I like the variations but they are heavy as hell and I would hate to see one come flying of at any speed!!!!! Interesting think I weighed them at 8 pounds each.

Sorry for the second pic only one I could quickly find, please disregard that modern thing!!!

Though similar, the P02 caps that came with a Corvette are unique to Corvettes. Trim rings and caps came with a bunch of cars.
Never bothered me what owners put on their cars. I use what I want.

That is an understatement, fellow Corvette owner. They are just awful, IMO - A view shared by many, I imagine, because we have eyes. Point #1 - hubcaps look cheap and suck, in general. Point #2, even if I liked the PO2's, why on Earth would I put on the same ones that you would find on several other GM cars, including a freakin' Buick. Point #3, they are heavy and would likely spin off at the first turn on track day, so you'd have to take them off. Point #4, they are uglier than sin. Point #5, they are tasteless and disgusting.

These things DEFINE 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. But maybe it should be, beauty is in the eyes of those who cannot see the ugliness that is in front of them. It is common practice for car makers to share parts amongst cars in the lineup, especially back in the day, but ugly fake wire wheel hubcaps???? c'mon, man.

One of the exceptions to the rule here are the Rally wheels. A Center hubcap and outer beauty ring. Beautiful simplicity at its finest. Not a gaudy fake wire wheel.
