Default AC Question

I've gotten the factory AC on my 72 working fine, with all original parts. The idle speed was dropping with the AC on, so I noticed that the idle solenoid was not extending far enough to bump the idle. I adjusted the pushrod and the idle solenoid works fine except the wire coming to the solenoid has power to it all the time, even with the AC and fan off. The wire goes into the harness and thru the firewall, and I couldnt find it on the wiring diagram. Any ideas why this would be energized all the time? Thanks.

It’s a 4 speed. It’s all original numbers matching.

That would make sense. I could splice into that power source but I don’t want to Bubba anything.

The solenoid has nothing to do with the AC.. It is hot all the time when the ignition is on. Its purpose is to stop dieseling when the ignition is shut off (pollution control) which closes the primary side of the carb completely . It also is used to set idle. If the carb is set properly you will see a 2-300 rpm drop when the AC is turned on, and should idle smoothly.
