Anchor Subwoofer in C3
Cheers!
You are in the right place to get good solid information regarding your Corvette!
As far as the sub woofer a lot of people make a box that attaches to the rear wall of the area behind the seats. This is not very practical if you have a convertible unless the box is shallow and does not interfere with the top in its retracted position. I personally purchased a Box speaker setup that goes across the width of the entire rear section and still fits with the top down. The box houses a wide variety of speakers to give a good sound for something like a Jeep. It sounds great with a 40 watt amplifier attached to my Stereo even in a Convertible. Unfortunately this doesn't help the sound as the convertible top rests in front of the speakers blocking the sound. I have seen thinner boxes that work well but most have been custom built by creative Corvette owners. Being a Coupe would make it easier to have it mounted against the rear wall of the rear compartment and if you have to secure it you might be able to through bolt it to the rear wall as it is available forward of the fuel tank underneath the Car. I would probably consider some VELCRO and attach it securely in place or better yet strap it in position using battery type straps. You don't want it to break loose if you are involved in an accident and have it flying forward toward the passengers.
The best solution would likely be building a box and mounting all the speakers in it with your Sub in the middle. The box I have came with the speakers and a black carpet covering that looks okay in the Corvette. It was sold by Crutchfield a long time ago. As I mentioned it was primarily designed for the back of a CJ model jeep but fits in the rear of the C3 nicely. Being removable is handy as I take it out when I need the space for traveling in the C3. Being wide it is too big to come through the seats in case of an accident but I secure it by having the top in front of it blocking it from coming forward. If your car has T-Tops and secures them behind the seats then you might have issues with the amount of space between the tops and the rear wall.
To be honest with you having a big block and a convertible Corvette I am very limited to quality sounds systems that you can hear well enough at speeds. The boom box type speakers with an amplifier have made it possible but most audiophiles would not be happy with the quality of the sounds I get in my Convertible.
In our 1988 C4 it was much easier to install a good sound system after three of my Bose amplifiers stopped working. I used the boxes and mounted some good speakers but the rear glass used in the late C3's and the C4's makes the sounds bounce all over driving my ears nuts. I used the factory Bose wiring to power the system and now I have a modern stereo that has USB inputs on it and allows me to have hands free phone calls while driving.
Crutchfield has always been my go-to place for stereo questions, they might offer speaker housing solutions as well. The support you get from them makes it all worthwhile.
(just kidding, don't do that)Nice find. Should really expand your audio. Give us a review how it sounds when yer done. How many speakers are in your car?
I haven't done this on my car, but something I 'plan' to do at some point when it gets out of the shop. That is to add speakers in the kick panels (lower door panels would be better, but I don't want to cut mine up), add small tweeters in the A-pillars. Of course a sub (somewhat like yours) ..and rear speakers. With an amp to provide enough power. All the vehicles I've been in or owned which had kick-a$$ stereo systems pretty much follow that scheme.

I used some of these drywall anchors to mount a subwoofer like that to the back panel. I am not sure if I will keep it there because it causes a lot of vibrations in the back of the car. I might move it to the back of the passenger seat.

Removed the jack and drilled out the retainer rivets.
Build a solid base with some well nuts in it so i could put bolts up from below to hold it in place.
Then attached sub to the board for a very solid and hidden setup.
