Default Transmission Sources

I'm going to replace the TH350 (set up for drag racing) in my '80 Corvette and was planning on installing a 700R4 to get the overdrive. The car has a 383 stroker and putting out about 450 HP at this time, so the transmission will probably need to be upgraded to handle the power. Does anyone have recommendations on good sources to purchase 700R4 transmissions? The current transmission is set up with a B&M Shifter and I'll be going back to the original shifter set up.

Thanks in advance.

Have you considered a 200-4R? I just put one in my 68. It would be less work than fitting in a 700-R4 and they can easily be made to handle 450 HP. Still tweaking mine in. It seems like it will be just fine but if I had done more research I would have contacted a fellow named David Husek. I found his name on the 200-4R Nerds facebook page AFTER I had already purchased mine. He seems really knowledgeable and is routinely volunteering to help folks asking questions on that page. If you want I'll go look up his phone number. He posts it when people ask questions so it's not like it's double secret.

If you could let me know David's phone number I would appreciate it. I was initially under the impression that the 200 R-4 wasn't strong enough for the 383, but I'm willing to listen to someone knowledgeable on the transmission.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not racing either. I just decided to go to an Automatic. AFTER I got mine I joined that FB group and that's where I heard about David Husek......and also learned a whole lot more.

Default 4l60E for my 383

1977 383 and 4l60e has been a perfect fit for my car. Good low end punch and overdrive when you want it. Built to handle hp and torque by SilverSport transmissions. They provide everything including driveshaft, cross member, all mounts, shift controller hoses wiring, etc. Easy swap, MODERN tranny, smooth and reliable.....no touchy set up tv cable, change shift piints and pressure on your cell phone! GladI went this route rather than fussing and fighting to make an outdated tranny fit.

North of 4000.00 but didn't buy anything else. All included. Easy and reliable. My speedo is dead on....1st time in 40 years! Give em tire size and rear gears, they set it up for you...
