Have you tried pushing the hook closed with a large screwdriver with the hood open?
Does it latch then with nothing in it?
If yes perhaps you need to adjust it.
If no, check both cables, making certain nothing is hanging up or out of adjustment.
Always make certain you push the release handle back in after opening hood.
