I'm having issues with my 68' wiring, so I think it's time for an updated harness.. In researching on-line, it looks like the Lectric Limited (Resto Mod) and American Autowire (Classic update kit) are good, but they also look exactly the same - any thoughts/recommendations?
I also considered just replacing the current stock dash harness kit, but I feel like I'll regret that in the future as I have no plans to complete a factory restoration. Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.
Well, you don't wish to do a factory restoration. But what accessories are you likely to install in the future?
This should be your starting point. If mostly it's going to be stock like but maybe adding relays for headlights, electric fans, bigger alternator. Those couple extra things can be wired in with a separate fuse panel. And then no real need to spend on a complete car harness. Now if your plans are custom Guages, high powered stereo, EFI , and on and on.
Then perhaps the resto mod harness makes sense.
If your dash harness is in need of replacement, And mostly the car isn't ever getting to wild. Just replace the dash harness.
Down the line you can always add on engine compartment harness or rear lighting harness.
Thanks, appreciated. Maybe I'll just go with the OEM replacement - aside from HEI and maybe EFI in the future, the rest will remain stock. As for the current harness, I have been struggling with intermittent hazards, brake lights, etc., and I believe I have narrowed it down to the rear connections within the fuse panel itself. Without taking the harness out fully, i opened it up and as I expected it's pretty rusty (as was everything else) - just thinking a replacement is the best path forward at this point.
