Default Turn signal issues 1972

So I changed out all the lights in the 1972 car with LED and the flasher units and everything worked great. I didn’t put in a vintage air air-conditioning system and the AC works great, but then after putting all the dash back together I have no turn signals.

1. Head lights work
2. Tail lights work
3. Brake lights work
4. Rear side lights work
5. Rear turn signals come on but do not flash
6. Front parking lights work
7. Front side lights do not work
8. Front turn signals do not come on or flash
9. Yes I do have a LED flasher

Any help would be appreciated

What year?

If you have side marker lights that you have replaced with LEDs, your turn signals WILL NOT WORK unless you either:
1. Put back the incandescents
2. Put in bi-directional LEDs
3. Read my thread, and install Blinker Genies.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...s-learned.html

Every single bulb in this 80 is an LED (except the 4 sealed-beam headlights).

Just rebuild all the back lights with new grounds.

Put a bridge rectifiers on each of the amber side marker bulbs. LED's are polarity sensitive and the circuit changes polarity depending on if the lights are one etc. No load resistors needed.

I fought with doing an LED conversion with my 96. Almost gave up till I figured that trick out.

Default Got everything working but turn signals at night

Got everything working on my 1972 turn signals for daytime driving. But at night when I turn on the lights and turn signals light up on the dash permanently and the signals don’t work, but everything else does.
any help would be appreciated.

I have a 73 and the turn signal indicator on the tach/speedo came on when the headlights were on. This occurs because of the way the parking lights, front turn signals are wired by Chevrolet. Since I didn’t want to retire the front parking lights, turn signal, I put the old incandescent bulbs ( two filaments) back in, and now everything is ok. Ran into a similar issue with an 1988 FIERO, the parking lights, turn signals caused the front side markers not to come on, so I put the incandescent bulbs back in.

Thank you for the info. Normally I would just do that but I have them all working at one point in time during the day and the night with LEDs in all the light sockets. That’s why I’m mystified as to what’s going on working fine during the day but not at night with the headlights on.

Short answer: Put incandecents in the front side marker lights (they require bi-directional current, and will not work with LEDs).

Long answer: Read my thread, linked in post #2.

When you turn on the headlights, the parking/turn signal lights come on, that is why everything is good until you turn them on. To fix the problem, you will have to rewire the parking/turn signal lights. There may be relay kits on the Maribor this.

Default Turn signal issues

So now I have all LEDs in the entire car except for the two front side lights I have incandescent. Everything works during the day. Still does not work at night. When I turn on the head lights NO turn signals flashing, just brighter. Also when the headlights are turned on the two incandescent lights on the front do not come on.

any help would be appreciated

Sorry, the problem is caused by the PARKING LIGHTS LEDs, not the side indicator lights. I am not smart enough to explain the reason, except that Chevrolet has the Parking Light/Turn Signal circuit goes through the side indicator light. Because LEDs have polarity, (incandescent bulbs do not have polarity) they block the voltage. As stated before, on my 1988 FIERO the same thing happened, I put the incandescent bulbs back in the parking/turn signal housings.

Ok now I have all the light working. So the entire car has LED lights in it, except for the front turn signal lights are incandescent light and flasher bulbs.

Glad to hear you fixed the problem. Like I said earlier, the fix would be to rewire the lights, but anytime I have to solder or work on these old wires, it’s no picnic.

OP, I'm glad you found a solution that worked. I finally got a chance to repeat the experiment on my 79, and I have different results.

My 79 has LED taillights, 3-wire LED flashers in both positions (turn signal and hazard), and still has incandescent front side marker lights.

I used white/amber 1157 LED switchback bulbs in the front positions, and left incandescent bulbs in the side marker positions. There are no cornering lights in my 79, and the light circuit should be the same as your 72. Also, I don't know if the switchback vs. conventional LEDs does anything.

This configuration worked fine for me. The front lights are much brighter (and can be used as DRLs in "white" mode, as is intended). The photos below show the original and replacement bulbs, and the left turn signal during the left turn flash, while the parking lights are on (so the right-side light is bright white). The side marker lights are comically dim now compared to the rest of the LEDs, so I'll still need to implement the Blinker Genie fix detailed in my thread (linked above).

Anyway, if your solution works, it, works! But I'm surprised this solution didn't also work for your 72.

Might not be related to the OP original issue as they've got it worked out now but I'll leave this here for future reference

I've got LED all around on my 72, one thing about the front marker/turn headlight problem that shows up where they work until the headlights are on. I found that the bulb type (read quality) made a difference

The "no name" LED was ok to use on the side marker lights but I needed to run a "proper" LED on the front so that the cross-flashing worked when the headlights are turned on (the power/ground sort of reverse through the front marker lights when the lights are on, strange method that they used for the fronts, rears are fine
