I'm looking at speaker options for the back of my 1977. My last c3 I built a speaker box and it sounded great (see pics below), but couldn't put my t-tops behind the seat. That wasn't a problem because I had a luggage rack on the back that I could put them on. My new project I wont be putting a luggage rack in the back so I want to be able to put the t-tops behind the seats. I have seen the autosound sound bar (https://www.topflightautomotive.com/...oundbar-coupe/) and that would be perfect, but the reviews on sound quality aren't great. Has anyone bought this and changed out the speakers to something better? if so what did you find that would fit? Thanks!

I have the Sound Bar installed in my 69 and the reviews are accurate. It looks better than it sounds. I had the same idea as you to replace the speakers when I replaced the carpet, but with sidepipes, any gains in sound quality probably wouldn't be that noticeable.
Depends on your expectations. If comparing to anything modern you’ll be disappointed but the sound bar, new speakers in the front and a sub woofer is better than anything stock from that period, at least from my memory.

Hey Don, have any more pics and install info for this?
Reminds me of the sub install on my Solstice, and looks pretty good. Moar info pleeze!!
Thanks!

You are probably right on that! I may pull the trigger on this sound bar and try my luck changing out the speakers. Ill report back on what I find If I do it.
Behind the console there is access to the storage compartments….direct access to the battery. Didn’t have to drill any holes. The ground is run to one of the seat bolts. I may have more pics on another device.
the sub is from retro sound. I did the sound bar, front speakers (with new dash pad) and one of their radios all at once. I’ll look for more pics…..most are on an older IPad that I have problems uploading to here
I also will not give up the cargo area for my T-Tops. So, a speaker system will have to straddle the two wheel wells a little on the high side for clearance.
You don't have to be a skilled craftsman to make something to your liking. And at a fraction of the cost.
I always figured a guy with some basic woodworking skills and a jigsaw could duplicate those expensive black plastic frames.
Maybe starting with some long cardboard for a template. Measure, mark with felt pen, trace, cut out the wheel wells. Measure again.
Then figure out where you want your speakers. Trace the template pattern onto some best grade 3/4" plywood.
Ask yourself, do you really need 3, 5, 7 speakers? I would think a pair of 6 x9 common units outward plus something wild dead-center would suffice.
More Amps, more Watts, more load on the Alt.
Look around at Joann's Fabric for some durable material that matches your carpet and looks sharp. Staple it behind the plywood, cut out the speaker holes.
Any wrinkles around the speaker holes will be hidden by the speaker grills.
