I'm not certain my radio is gaudy. But I will post it up when it's all done.
Aparently you only like stock radios with 2 *****.
To each his own.
My problem isn't that the radio needs to be stock, it's that anything else looks horribly out of place. You did a great job cutting the center console, and the radio bezel will cover the aluminum, and that part will look great, But if you found a 1 DIN radio that both sounds great, and looks like it belongs in a 77-82 C3 interior, I'd really love to see it. I don't think such a radio exists.
Both POs of both of my cars ruined the center console of my cars. Which means I have to fix two interiors. Here's the glaring anachronism in my wife's 79. Sounds great, but looks out of place, especially at night when it is far brighter than the rest of the interior (the gauges lights are turned up all the way).
So, yes, to each his own. But if you just want to listen to music streamed from your phone, there are much better solutions that don't look like trash.
Just a basic sony. I don't think it looks out of place at all. No funny colored lights. just a nice CD player and radio that is most likely not up to the real stereo kinda guys. But, with my hearing I'd never know the difference anyway. And it ***** all over the factory unit I pulled out 30 years ago.
Looks fantastic. The only opinion that matters is YOURS.

Mine has had a single din radio (with aftermarket bezel (also steel like the OEM) since 2008 Pioneer 4500-NEX
This is my second one with a flip up screen. It has XM, DVD's, Bluetooth, Android Auto, Car Play, Navigation and hands free Cell phone and I even added Alexa to select music while playing Amazon Music while driving

Well -- that looks great!
What brand/model/etc unit is that? I'm liking the way it sits such that you can still see the gauges. Can you run a rear view camera to that thing?
I purchased it shipped from Crutchfield for $200. It doesn't have a CD player, but it has bluetooth, Apple Play, and came with a license plate camera that I also installed.
