Does anyone know the part to get to use when cutting the dash cluster to install a single sim stereo. I purchase one from Napa and I think it’s too big.
I’ve been reading the forums and, so far, everything I found was for earlier years.
‘I did buy the radio. The price of a new cluster for my ‘82 Collectors Edition would cost more than my radio. Being that my cluster is damaged on the backside from the previous owner, I figured I’d just modify the original and save money,
‘The car is swapping in an LS1 so I’m not concerned about originality.
just use the "cage" that you use to mount the single DIN radio as a template, mark your bezel and cut, if you're looking at cutting the one you have. Very easy to do, using any number of methods to cut the bezel.
Once I decided that I didn't really need a CD player it made things a lot simpler. Here's what I got as a temporary unit when my last CD playing unit failed. You may want to consider something like this unless you're already set on the stereo with a CD player. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1603097076
But then, so will the radio you put in there. Put in a hidden bluetooth unit if you need to listen to music.
You are correct, though. I couldn't find any 1-DIN center console bezels online. Perhaps they sold out, and aren't making them right now or anymore. I have one in my 79 that I'll be selling shortly. Perhaps you can find one on eBay in the meantime.
Way to go! Just cut it and show us. It's always fun to see... when your head unit fails you might consider one of those "no depth" puppies..... I only bought it as temporary but holy cow it give me a lot of room behind there.
