I like the Taylor 8mm wire sets. Good quality. You cut to fit and crimp on the distributor end. End result is very neat. I hate floppy plug wires draped over the valve covers.

You make no mention what path you ran your wires.
If you installed a set of universal length wires following the factory path it's possible you might think the two longest wires would land at 1 & 2, makes sense right?
The 2 longest wires following the factory path would land at 2 & 3.
75-77 used the same factory path and wire lengths.
I build my own using 8mm Taylor wires and start with a 30' roll cutting them extra long and have roughly 2' left when I finish, Label each wire at wild end....
I install the spark boot end then run the wires to the distributor leaving the length wild until final connection to cap.
These prices I included are outdated now I'm sure...
Notice the wire length if you purchase the Taylor universal kits with the spark plug end already installed.

I ran wires according to service manual! Still came up short on #8 plug wire. It was 24 inches long not enough to tuck under chrome race way. Thanks stevedining and bmotojoe good info. I used the Moroso and they were not that great! The wires cracked on the circumference of the wire in 4 places and was giving me hesitation on take off, and i thought it was a carb problem. These Moroso wires were yellow in color 8 mm but were not treated to to much heat cycling but were just maybe 10 years old.. The jacket was not a silicone covering but a soft material that bio degraded over time. Time was there enemy not miles!.

Glad you got it sorted out. As has been said many times on this forum, most carb problems turn out to be ignition lol.

I think I started out with MSD wires (don’t clearly recall) but I had trouble with the ends staying on. Finally got frustrated and saw others recommending Taylor on the forum. Haven’t had a problem since I switched.
