You mean, you're considering to use clear plastic packaging tape to mask off an area you're planning to 'glass' nearby? If that's the case, yes. It won't adhere to the tape. Regular masking tape or duct tape will work too.
Note: You probably already know this, but don't forget to use Epoxy for SMC repairs (not Polyester resin). Polyester resin-based repairs might *look* great, but will have no strength and literally 'flake off' effortlessly, like picking a dried scab off your arm.

Yeah, I have SMC fiberglass panel adhesive and need to get some SMC fiberglass resin plus fiber filler for SMC.
If it's just a small repair, regular hardware store dual-tube clear epoxy (to mix with the fiberglass strand) works just fine. I've done many SMC repairs like that. But if you have a lot to do, then the larger can makes more sense.
