kick panels
In my 77 vette can somebody tell me what's the biggest size speakers I can put in my front kick panels? And do they have to be round or can oval fit like 4x6 speakers? Thank you everyone for your input.

And I just had my kick panel off the other day!
This I can tell you. They HAVE TO BE ROUND.
Not wishing to pull a kick panel again to measure. And I put them in years ago. I "THINK", best memory, 4 inch. and just, and I mean just fit.

Remove sill plate, 4 screws. remove one screw forward upper in kick panel, tilt kick panel downward and rearwards and remove. Then measure. Shouldn't take 5 minutes.

If you want it hidden behind the kick panels you can….
- use a 4” x 6” oval or plate speaker.
- use a 5 1/4”round with a thin backing plate.
If your ok with it on top of the kick panel then 6” round is possible as long as magnet will fit in the birdcage.

Your earlier car must be slightly different. As you can sorta see in my fuzzy photo above of my 77. Thats all steel above my speaker. No way I could get in that oval without cutting on my 77.

This is what the 71 kick looks like empty
If I recall the top edge is indented a bit and is not flat and thats why I used larger plates to get better sealing on mounted speakers.
