Boat guys have neat stuff
HYDRA® Battery Cable Extender Kit, can accommodate up to 2-gauge wire connecting back to the posts on the battery terminal.
Uses stainless steel hardware with a 5/16-18 stud and a case to protect the in-line connection.

Assuming you need the battery end......I used one of these years ago (5? 10?) and it is still in use ... easy peasy lemon squeezy .... doesn't rust, bust, or collect dust....works fine, lasts a long time, drains to the bilge.... but anyway.....

You can get either the side terminal type or the top terminal type. About 9" long as mentioned in link.

Asumming your terminal bolt is stripped out this is what I did. Not my video, but it’s where I got the idea.

About 6-10 inches. They put the wrong battery in the car and it is facing the wrong way and they cut down the cable to fit it.

Nice

They make these things

Where that one end is a female connector for a side post end. then you could adapt or cut the top-post end off and install a side-post end. Not ideal but ???

I know there are 2g butt crimp connectors available that would more or less do what that thing I posted above does also

I'd be livid if a shop did that hack before asking me first. Take it back to the shop and tell them to do it right at their expense.

Does anybody know what gauge wire the 1978 uses.?
I am installing an LT1 into it and had to move the engine forward to clear my hydraulic clutch. I figured I may as well replace the cable and make it 'RED' at the same time.

I don't take my car to shops. I do all my own work. Second it was like that when I bought it.

Use this opportunity to wire in a higher end kill switch. PS keep ground as short as possible, and for the hot ensure it doesn't rub on things!
