In post 11, are you saying your choke is wired directly to the alternator? If so which terminal on the alternator? If it's the big round one then that is your problem.

And we've gotten to 22 posts without a single photo, except of a battery cut-off that would also solve the problem.
If the choke is always "on", and hot, there might be problems starting the car, too.
For now, I'm happy he has his car fixed.
but I do wonder if it was just a bad battery?
Perhaps as quality just isn't always what it should be.
My C3 has had very good luck with battery's. The last one, a cheap Walmart 2 year battery went 13 years. A.C. Delco in her now is over 5 years old and going strong.
but luck seems to have a lot to do with how long a battery will last.
I had a starting issue a couple days ago. Just didn't fire like it usually does, with a rev and an explosion! I go out today to fix my garage door opener because that crapped out on me only to find the battery dead in the car. Put a trickle charger on it but this usually indicates it's time for a new battery. It's two years old. I'll ask the shop to test it and all that stuff but I think it's done. Maybe they'll give me a break on the new one because of it. LMAO! I'm thinking (hoping) I just got a sh*t battery courtesy of Xi.
Garage door decided to stop working. First it was the batteries in the wall unit (the hand held stuff was not working either) now the electric eye that one needs to open the damned door is bad. I rewired it to itself, eye to eye, (did this at another house I owned worked great). Opener works but acts as if there is something in the way of the eyes. I'm throwing some parts at it to see if I can get it to work. Going to wire a new set of eyes facing each other. The problems are pouring over here!
I have a question. Do these cars come with an automatic shutoff to the electrical like most new cars do? After my battery went south, I put it on a charger and later that night it fired right up. It has continued to fire right up with no issues. I'm thinking I left something ajar. It's acting NORMALLY! WTH!?
When I picked up my '80 back in Oct, I noticed the underhood light was always on. The switch had shorted, and was draining the battery. Tested it by closing the switch when the hood was up - light never turned off. Easy fix - removed the light bulb......
