Question:
For those that have composite springs with either 18x 9 or 9.5" rims with 4.5 or 4.75" backspacing on 275 40R 18" tires, did the spring need to be shorted 1/2"-1"?

Buy the wheels you like in a size that looks good to you. Then you can answer your own question when they are on the car. You can then buy a shortened spring if need be.

This is using the VB&P street & slalom kit when it was available. No modifications required.

Rims and tires won't be purchased for another year. Rear end is apart and I want to be prepared so I won't have any surprises in the future.

Thank you for the photo, rear e-brake has been relocated. It seems I will go with the standard spring size.

The tire fit but had very little room until contact. I'll post a picture with the bracket removed showing how much space is there now.
I don't think any tires on a car could look more perfect on the car than what Cagotzman has on his. Every time I see that picture......I think, yes...THAT is what a C3 Corvette should be running on.
My favorite wheel/tire combo is the plain 'ol Corvette Rally wheels with 255/60/15 tires, but I do admit that tire choice is quite limited. 18" wheels open C3 Corvette owners up to a whole new world of available tire choices (after working out the backspacing and resolving any rubbing issues).
IMO, 18" is the absolute limit, however, as anything larger starts to look Hooptie-ish (for lack of a better term) and really destroys the classiness of the car. Something about filling those wheel wells with 'sidewall' as opposed to 'rim', or a good balance of both, just looks right. Again - just my opinion.
I have to say pictures of your car with those 18's on them, when you put them on years ago.....has always inspired me to consider 18's.....they just look right on your car. I am considering them for my 69 convertible....although I will be satisifed with the 8 inch wheels all around.
